NATIONAL ATLAS OF THE

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE)

Published by the University of the United Arab Emirates in 1993, this is the first national atlas of the UAE. A totally comprehensive guide in 154 map plates to the history, geography, climate, population, economy and culture of the UAE, extensively illustrated with statistical diagrams, graphics, satellite imagery and photographs. Available in Arabic and English editions, the contents are divided according to the fifteen sections below:

Part I - Maps of the United Arab Emirates: six plates including a topographic map of the UAE, examples of historical mapping of the Gulf and coverage maps and examples of contemporary topographic map series, geology map series, aerial photography and satellite imagery.

Part II - United Arab Emirates From Space: nine plates comprising a satellite image mosaic of the UAE and regional satellite images shown alongside topographic map extracts.

Part III - International, Regional and Local Frame: four plates showing the UAE in the World, Islamic World, Arab World and the Gulf.

Part IV - Heritage and History of the UAE: eleven plates showing archaeology, pearl diving, early history of the Arabian Peninsula and Arabian Gulf from before Islam to the present.

Part V - Geology and Geomorphology: thirteen plates showing national and regional geology, relief and geomorphology.

Part VI - Climate: seven plates showing the location of meteorological stations and all aspects of temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, winds and rainfall.

Part VII - Water Resources: six plates showing national and regional hydrogeology, aquifers and ground water, springs, falajes, dams and water production.

Part VIII - Biogeography: nine plates showing national and regional soils, flora and fauna.

Part IX - Population: twenty-one plates showing population distribution, growth, fertility, marital status, age and sex structure, economic structure, occupational structure and World and Arab World immigration.

Part X - Land Use: thirty plates showing national land use, land use and development of all the main urban areas and selected rural areas, architecture and housing.

Part XI - Economic Aspects: sixteen plates showing agriculture, fishing, oil and gas, electricity, extractive and manufacturing industry, wholesale and retail trade, imports and exports, foreign trade, GDP and financial establishments.

Part XII - Transport and Communications: eight plates showing roads, seaports, airports, mail services and telecommunications.
