Superb value map!
Geological Map of the World - 1:32 000 000. 1010 x
1520 mm. Open University/Esso. 1994. A very clear and colourful map which
demonstrates dramatically the distribution and ages of the rocks of the
continental and oceanic crusts, and shows the differences in distribution
patterns. Additional information includes diagrams showing the changing
configuration of the continents over the past 500 million years, a small
map of the world showing the main tectonic plates and a diagram showing
the activity of oceanic tectonic plates, and some questions to test basic
understanding of earth processes. This map is very useful for understanding
and also teaching the evidence for the plate tectonic model. A very attractive
map giving excellent value.
Price: paper £7-50, laminated £17-50, framed £85-00.

Regional Petroleum Geology of the World
This two volume book, comprising 1704 pages, contains contributions from
50 petroleum geologists working in companies or institutions all over the
world - from Calgary to Manila, from Trinidad to Oslo and Madrid. The purpose
of this book is to provide concise information on the petroleum geology
of all continents and virtually all countries of the world. About half the
contributions are in English, the rest in German. All figure captions are
in both languages.
The articles describe all petroleum geologically relevant countries and
are written mainly by regional specialists. They cover exploration history,
production, reserves and remaining potential. They give a geological overview
of the country, describe and discuss the sedimentary basins and particularly
the petroleum systems (from source rock to oil or gas field). The contributions
concentrate on all relevant areas and deal with all known petroleum habitats.
A detailed subject index in each volume permits the reader to find all regional
and stratigraphic items dealt with. It includes names of oil and gas fields,
formation names and some general terms (e.g. oil shale, tar sand, diapir).
"Regional Petroleum Geology of the World" is unique in its global
coverage of petroleum occurrences and can be considered an encyclopaedia
of regional petroleum geology. It contains a tremendous amount of maps,
tables, profiles and geological sketches of all regions. Another benefit
for the user of this publication is the great number of references included
in the individual articles.
This book is recommended in particular to petroleum companies operating
world-wide (from explorationists to management), petroleum geological consultants,
universities and petroleum-related research institutions, geoscientists
and their institutes, scientific libraries, economists.
